This route is 190 miles in length and is offered to ADVANCED RIDERS ONLY! Be sure and gas up in Prairie City if you can’t do 190 on one tank. If you have your appetite with you, Chuck’s Little Diner is for you. It’s right on Main Street and the food has always been GREAT!
You will turn south onto Forest Service Rd 62 and continue about 28 miles to the FS 16 junction and turn left. This leads you just south of Lookout Mountain and the Monument Rock Wilderness crossing the North fork of the Malhuer River and the Little Malhuer River. From the summit at Murray Hill it’s all downhill towards HWY 26. This is stunningly beautiful country, so enjoy the show.

What is special about this route that requires it to be an Advanced Rider route? Gravel roads, stream crossings, etc????

The sections in the Strawberry Mtns are mostly one lane paved forest service roads with no corner signs, guard rails or any safety measures. I think you know if you are an Advanced Rider. I just don’t want a bunch of novice riders going over the edge while they are looking at all the great scenery!
I agree Steve,
Enough of the novice riders get themselves in trouble on lazy curves with no gravel. Thanx for labeling this as advanced rider, maybe it will allow some to pause and review their skill level before attempting.
So is this route completely paved?
Yes. Just so happens that two of us rode this exact route on September 6th. Parts are one lane and rough – but it is all paved. Zero traffic and great scenery. Be sure an swing by Bearcat Lodge in Seneca. JW, the owner, is a life long biker and knows the area better than anyone on a bike!
The road from Baker to Prairie City isn’t too bad. Among other things, you do want to need to stay alert for wildlife.
